Earn extra money with what you already know how to do

Dog walking, laundry, furniture assembly or homework help: how to start offering what you are good at to people in your neighbourhood.

· 2 min lesing

Many of us can do something our neighbours would happily pay for: walk a dog, assemble a wardrobe, do the laundry, or help a child with maths. Here is how to get started.

What can you offer?

Start with what you already do at home. Some ideas:

Set a fair price

See what others charge for the same thing in your category, and stay at that level while you are new. Put the price in your listing, so people know what they are saying yes to. Once you have happy, regular customers, you can raise it.

Write a listing that sells

  • Title: what you offer, and where, for example "Daytime dog walking, Frederiksberg" or "Math tutoring for grade school, Cebu City"
  • Price: per hour, per item or a fixed price
  • A little about you: two lines on why you are the right person, for example "I have had dogs myself for ten years"

Share it where people know you

Your first customers are often people who know you, or know someone who does. Share your listing in your family chat, your building's group or your local Facebook group.

Remember tax

Money you earn on the side is usually taxable, even small amounts. Check the rules before you start:

  • Denmark: report the income to the Danish Tax Agency on skat.dk. If you register a business with a CVR number, your customers can also claim the service deduction (servicefradrag) for cleaning or gardening you do for them.
  • Philippines: self-employed people and freelancers register with the BIR (Bureau of Internal Revenue) and file income tax. Many small earners can choose a simple 8% income tax option. Check the current rules on bir.gov.ph or with a tax adviser.

Get started

Get the app, post your first listing, and share it with your friends. It takes a minute.
